Fisherman is the central antagonist of the "Message In A Bottle" storyarc and the eternal enemy of the Seal Maiden - he is an evil spirit who commands the monstrous Nuckelavee and uses it to enforce his will upon the mystical undersea kingdom of Hildaland (which occassionally surfaces in the form a "shifting island").
Fisherman was once a powerful and respected spirit of the ocean who grew in the presence of the Great King of the ocean himself, Neptune - yet Fisherman became corrupted by those who dance in shadows, eventually breaking away to become a lone spirit of destruction and ruin that embodied the darkest elements of the ocean.
Fisherman is a powerful spirit who can manifest a number of abilities that puts him second only to the Nuckelavee in terms of strength.
- Tidal Command (Fisherman can command the ocean to such a degree that he could destroy small cities if he focused hard enough)
- Ghost Lights (Fisherman can utilize powerful magic known as "Ghost Lights" that home in on individuals and cause realisitic illusions that can often lead the unwary to their doom)
- Shape Shifting (Fisherman can take the form of almost any creature in the sea, not including mythical beasts)
- Animation (Fisherman can animate certain inorganic structures, such as driftwood found on the shore or in the sea - forming very basic golems from them that can be directed by his will)
